About National Practitioner Data Bank
The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) is a web-based repository of reports containing information on medical malpractice payments and certain adverse actions related to health care practitioners, providers, and suppliers. Established by Congress in 1986, it is a workforce tool that prevents practitioners from moving state to state without disclosure or discovery of previous damaging performance.
Federal regulations authorize eligible entities to report to and/or query the NPDB. Individuals and organizations who are subjects of these reports have access to their own information. The reports are confidential, and not available to the public.

CredentialStream
As a part of the core CredentialStream product, CredentialStream interfaces with the NPDB – Query and Reporting XML Service (QRXS) webservice to:
- Perform automated one-time NPDB queries necessary to support a credentialing event such as appointment or reappointment.
- Interact with NPDB’s Continuous Monitoring Option – which will email reports to the specified user whenever a report exists.
- Enroll Providers into Continuous Monitoring.
- Renew Providers that are due for re-enrollment.
- Update key NPDB roster data for providers whose profiles have changed.
- Delete (Cancel) providers that are no longer on staff.
- Check the status of a provider within the NPDB.
To utilize the NPDB integration, CredentialStream customers must:
- Have an account with the National Practitioner Data Bank that allows that organization to perform queries.
- Enter the NPDB Account Information and payment method into CredentialStream.
- Set up the necessary queries to identify the providers you want to send to NPDB.
- For each of the queries, identify the NPDB Action you want to perform for against the selected providers.
- Schedule each query-> action combination to run as frequently as necessary.
